The Elevated — Above Ground

INSPIRED BY SLOW SUMMER DAYS

What started as an impulsive purchase quickly became my favorite project of the year. We bought an above-ground pool on a whim, and once the pink plastic pool—that was on sale—went up, I knew there was no way I could just leave it like that.

Before the aesthetics came a lot of planning, measuring, and problem-solving. The ground had other plans for us, forcing us to rethink the design more than once and work with the landscape instead of against it.

The vision became a backyard oasis that feels like an escape without leaving home—lush, relaxed, and a little playful. The existing oak trees inspired a mix of natural textures and tropical greenery, while pops of yellow and mauve bring warmth and personality to the space.

Then came the Texas triple-digit heat. Improvements were temporarily put on hold, and instead of constantly working on the space, we finally did exactly what it was designed for: slowed down, jumped in, and enjoyed it.

Turns out, I knew I liked the water. I just didn’t realize how much I’d love having it in my own backyard.
